Holland Moves ibtm world 2016 – and me

ibtm world in Barcelona has always been one of my favourite industry events of the year. And the 2016 edition will hold an extra special place in my orange heart as it was the last event I attended as Mr Holland. Needless to say that it was a bitter sweet visit to Barcelona this time around. I showed eventprofs from around the world that Holland Moves, we shared many fond memories and I had the most fantastic farewell I could have wished for. Let’s reminisce a bit, shall we?

Team Holland at ibtm world 2016

Team Holland at ibtm world 2016This year, 34 Dutch suppliers represented Team Holland at the Holland stand at ibtm world. Together, we showed eventprofs from all over the world how Holland Moves your meeting to the next level. And of course one thing that could not miss this year was our renowned Postillion Happy Hour.

Rendezvous at ibtm world 2016

This year, NBTC Holland Marketing partnered with ibtm world and Meetings Professional International (MPI) Foundation to launch Rendezvous at ibtm world 2016.

What can I say other than Rendezvous surely was a night to remember! Thank you to each and everyone of you for celebrating a night of orange fun with Team Holland and myself. For me personally it was bitter-sweet, since Rendezvous also marked my very last performance as Mr Holland. As of now, I will go through life as The Artist Formerly Known as Mr Holland. But, we will always have the wonderful memories.

And by the way, all proceeds of the event will be invested in the MPI Foundation, which funds scholarships, grants and pan-industry research. What a better way for me to say goodbye to the events industry!

Orange carpet photo call

All pictures from the Rendezvous Orange Carpet photo call are now up on my Facebook page. Feel free to tag yourself and share your Orange Carpet moment.

Team Holland takes over

One of my last duties as (The Artist Formerly Known As) Mr Holland was to officially pass on the Holland ambassador torch to my friends from Team Holland. And I did it the Dutch way, of course: by adding some (more) orange to each and every single one of them. Mission accomplished, don’t you think? 😉

The hardest godbye of them all – farewell Team Holland

We’ve known each other for a while now, so I feel I can be honest with you. In the events industry we see people come and go quite often. However, there was one farewell that hit me a bit harder than I was anticipating: saying goodbye to ‘my’ Team Holland.

ibtm world 2016’s Team Holland represented a much bigger Team Holland, of course. Throughout the years I had the pleasure of working together with so many inspiring and driven suppliers from the Duch meetings and events industry. And it wouldn’t do them justice not to give each and everyone of them a shoutout at this moment. You all know who you are!

The only consolation was that apparently I wasn’t the only one having a hard time letting go, quite literally 😉

But, alas, the moment had to come after all. So without further ado, here is one more immensely huge THANK YOU TEAM HOLLAND (yes, I capitalized that). And thank you for the memories. It’s been an honor representing you and our beautiful small country across the world.

Farewell Team Holland

Farewell Team Holland

Goodbye ibtm world, goodbye eventprofs

And at last, I couldn’t postpone the final goodbye anymore. After all, I had a plane to catch 😉  But it’s like they say: all good things must come to an end. And so my final walk out of the Grand Fira in Barcelona was a very symbolic one. Thank you ibtm world and thank you eventprofs from all over the world. I hope you agree with me when I say we’ve had an amazing 5 years together. So farewell, dear friends. Until we meet again – hopefully in Holland! 😉

Let’s Rendezvous at IBTM World

Rendezvous at IBTM World

Buy your Rendezvous ticketIf you are a regular IBTM World (or former EIBTM) attendee, you surely know that Wednesday night is reserved for one of the meeting industry’s greatest happenings. Some people may recall the event as IBTM World’s Club Night at Opium and some people may even remember the equally iconic Holland House Event. The latter was before my time unfortunately, but I have been told many tales surrounding the infamous Dutch party – some of which could surely be labeled as ‘what happens in Barcelona, stays in Barcelona’!

Club Night becomes Rendezvous

This year, NBTC Holland Marketing is proud to partner with IBTM World and Meetings Professional International (MPI) Foundation to launch Rendezvous at IBTM World 2016. Rendezvous is MPI Foundation’s signature networking and fundraising event and will see its inaugural IBTM World edition on Wednesday, November 30 at Opium in Barcelona. All proceeds of the event will be invested in the MPI Foundation, which funds scholarships, grants and pan-industry research. Can you imagine a better way to secure the future success of the meetings and events industry than by having an unforgettable orange party?

Let Holland move you all night long

This means that on November 30 the night will light orange in Barcelona. Team Holland is ready to move you all night long and it will be a night full of orange surprises. Trust me on this one! And of course I will be there as well. So what are you waiting for? Buy your Rendezvous ticket now for a night full of orange fun and dancing.

King’s Day 2015 – Dordrecht

On Monday the 27th it’s one of the happiest days of the year in Holland: King’s Day! Remember the tourist review I did with lucky price winner Daise? You still have time to participate in the biggest orange party of the year! This year the King and Queen will visit Dordrecht, a city in the western part of the country. What can we expect during this day? Find out in this blog!

King and Queen

The Royal family visits Dordrecht
Every year the King and Queen (and others of the Royal family) visit one or several places in the country to celebrate together with the nation. This year they will visit beautiful Dordrecht. Between 11:00 and 13:15 they walk a route between Groothoofd, via the Great Church, Scheffersplein and the Court to Statenplein. After the visit of the royal family is done, there is still much to do in town.

At several places you can find live music, dj’s and amateur street musicians. And of course there is a flee market and lots of nice food stands!

Didnt get the memo

You can’t really miss King’s day. Well… maybe only if you missed last year’s memo that Queen’s day turned into King’s day and is held on a different date from now on. Whoops…

The rest of Holland
Wherever you are.. There are local celebrations everywhere! Visit the big flea market in the Vondelpark early on in the day. Or even better.. start celebrating the night before King’s Day during one of the more famous music festivals in The Hague.

What is King’s Day and why the orange?
A lot of people ask me these questions. What is up with the colour orange? And what do we celebrate during King’s Day? Check out this page full with interesting facts and information about our Royal family, the colour orange and more fun stuff to do this Monday.

I can’t wait! Will I see you in orange this King’s Day?

Holland’s first King’s day: a tourist’s review

Do you remember the Facebook competition a while ago? You were able to win a trip for two to Holland during King’s day weekend. Daise Graca from Grass Roots was the lucky winner. Curious as I am, I asked her all about first Orange madness experience.

Daise Graca

How did you experience King’s day as a tourist?
I had a great time in Amsterdam on King’s Day! The whole city was dressed in Orange, and everyone was in a party mood.

Could you explain in your own words what King’s day is all about? What can other people expect?
King’s day is the people’s celebration of the King’s Birthday. It’s a major celebration that takes place everywhere in Holland, and in particularly in Amsterdam, by the form of a massive street party.

Where did you go and how did you spend your weekend?
I went to the centre of Amsterdam, to the flea market and went to a party at the RAI Amsterdam.

What was the funniest/greatest part of your weekend?
The funniest part was to see babies and adults dressed up in the orange colour.

Did you try any Dutch foods? Did you go on a canal boat? Did you wear the orange outfit? What was the weirdest outfit you saw on the streets?
I’ve tried a lot of the Dutch dishes and I was particularly found of the chocolate chips you spread on the bread (Mr. Holland: hagelslag!). The weirdest outfit was someone dressed as an Orange! We joined the party and also wore Orange t-shirts. See the picture at the beginning of this blog post!

Will you come back in the future to celebrate King’s day with the Dutch again?
I will definitely go back to celebrate King’s Day.

How did you like your stay at Novotel? What, would you say, are their USP’s?
The Novotel offers very modern facilities, with internet hubs in the lobby and an amazing variety for breakfast.

Would you recommend Novotel?
I will definitely recommend and use the Novotel for my client’s conferences.
