Site Inspection in Noordwijk: meet at the Beach of Holland

On the shores of the North Sea, surrounded by flower fields, dunes and beaches lies Noordwijk. Once a small fishing village, Noordwijk is now one of the top locations in Holland for meetings and conferences. I have been on site inspection to the coastal town to check out the meeting facilities for you.

Noordwijk is a warm and friendly seaside resort. It is a lively backdrop for hosting business events such as meetings, incentives and conventions. Combining the charms of a holiday destination with the professionality of a business town, Noordwijk is an attractive location for large and small corporate events.

Noordwijk is reigned by a strong team spirirt. The cooperation between local businesses is exemplary. The big congress hotels are within walking distance of each other offer the perfect infrastructure for any business meeting or conference in Noordwijk. The small town has hosted NATO meetings, international fund-raising congresses and Pricewaterhouse Cooper Global conferences. Hotels, restaurants, shops and the local government work together to provide meeting delegates the best possible hospitality. The Dutch national football team chooses Noordwijk as a home base in preparing for important international games. This spirit makes Noordwijk a perfect destination for teambuilding. The town and the beach offer various group activities that will build trust and commitment among employees.

Central location

Due to its central location, Noordwijk is easily accessible via common modes of transport. Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport are less than a 30 minute-drive away and The Hague, Leiden and Rotterdam Airport are close.

Whether you prefer a 5* hotel or a more casual accommodation, Noordwijk has it all. Here are my favourite places.

Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin 5*
Hotels van Oranje 5*
Palace Hotel 4*
Kerk aan Zee
NH Conference Centre Leeuwenhorst
Strandplaats Nederzandt
Villa de Duinen

Noordwijk has room for numerous great teambuilding activities. Here are my favourites:

Building sand sculptures: it requires patience and a cam hand to build a work of art

Float building: play Robinson Crusoe and work as a team to get a functional float on the water

Powerkiten: there is no more impressive way to experience the winds of the North Sea

Life Rescue on the North Sea: learn to trust and help each other on this life saving adventure

After your meeting

If you have time left after your meeting I recommend you to enjoy the beautiful nature Noordwijk is blessed with. The cosy coastal town is also know as the flower seaside resort because of its closeness to the famous flower fields and the annual Flower Parade. Stretching over 13 kilometres, the beach at Noordwijk offers peace and quiet as well as a host of outdoor pursuits, ranging from cycling the dunes to all sorts of water sports. Noordwijk has been awarded the Blue Flag eco-label of quality many times and is still listed as such.

Meet in The Hague: a destination to make great decisions

The Hague is often referred to as a city of many faces. While Amsterdam is the official capital of Holland, the national government and the residence of the Dutch royal family are settled in The Hague. I have been on another site inspection to check out the meeting facilities in the secret capital for you.

Blog Holland The Hague

The international appeal of The Hague is even more overwhelming than in Amsterdam. More than half of the population are not Dutch natives. About 160 international organizations, 107 embassies and 316 international businesses have their seat in The Hague. The broad cultural diversity is expressed in many colourful festivals, museums and theatres.

My friends of The Hague Convention Bureau told me that The Hague has been a place to meet for centuries. Since the first Peace Conference in 1899 took place, prominent people from all over the world come together to share ideas and make decisions. Today, The Hague is officially renowned as the City of Peace and Justice and is the official seat of the Interational Criminal Court of Justice. Are you facing a meeting with conflicting stakeholder interests or cultural barriers? Do you need to share a difficult message or make  a big decisions for your company? Then The Hague is your destination.

Blog Holland Thalys

You can reach The Hague via Airport Rotterdam and The Hague. Since Holland’s second airport is less busy than Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, you can benefit from quicker chek-in’s and comfortable departure times to 34 destinations. Guests from Belgium and France have a great connection with Hispeed and Thalys trains. I you don’t like flying, StenaLine offers a convenient and affordable ferry service from Harwich to Hook of Holland, twice per day.

After you meeting

How much time do you have before you leave? If you have less than a day you should enjoy the rich history in the city centre of The Hague.  The official tourist office offers special Art & Antiques Walks, a tour that leads you through the many antique shops, galleries and auction houses. In the evening you can visit one of the many theatre stages like Korzo Theater to enjoy cabaret, a musical or dance performance.

You have a whole day or more time to send in The Hague? The I recommend you to check out another face of the city. Die to its appealing location at the shores of the north sea, The Hague owns the two popular seaside resorts Scheveningen and Kijkduin, which both are popular playgrounds for surfers and kiteboarders. Especially in summertime, these places are a must-see.

Cooling down in Zeeland

I feel very sad when I think about it, but my holiday is coming to an end. It’s time to take a plane back to Holland again. I have travelled through Europe so long, that I’m starting to miss the good, old Dutch cheese and bitterballen. Luckily, I have still some days left to settle in my homecountry again and recover from all my exciting adventures. I spend these days in Zeeland, a province in the southwest of Holland.

Exploring the nature of the coast

The beaches of Zeeland host many beautiful nature reserves. National Park Oosterschelde, for instance, is the biggest reserve in Holland and famous for its rich sea life. One evening I joined a field trip along the wadden sea. I’m lucky to have a guide, who seems to know everything about the plants and animals that live here. He shows us porpoises, seals, squids and various kinds of birds. If you are interested in nature I can only recommend such a trip for you.

Blog Holland Holiday Texel Kite Surfen

Riding the waves

The beaches in Zeeland provide all opportunities for water sports. Have you ever tried kite surfing? I have taken some lessons this week and I love it. The kite surf school at the Brouwersdam has very experienced instructors, who take care that you don’t drown under your kite. It’s really difficult in the beginning. I spend more time in the water than on my board. But I’m sure that it can be very much fun if you keep practicing.

Last chance to relax

After all these exciting kite surf lessons I feel a strong urge for a wellness day. Luckily, Zeeland has enough facilities where you can pamper yourself until you are soft and weak as pudding. I spend the last day of my holiday in a big sauna park near the Brouwersdam and I only move to walk from the steam sauna to the steep bath and back to my sunbed. When I feel like having sweat all the stress out of my body I get a massage from a very skilled and friendly employee. I wish I could stay a little longer…

Bye, bye holiday

The trip is over and I have to go back to the office. Of course, I’m a little sad but I’m also looking forward to IMEX America and EIBTM, when I meet you all to tell you more about my holiday. See you there?

Italy: exploring ancient culture

Spain was amazing but unfortunately I have a busy holiday schedule on my trip. There are so many things I still want to see before I return to Holland. Thus, I’m heading further south towards Italy. When you only have a few days to spend in a country, it’s always hard to make a choice. But for Italy this turned out extremely difficult. After all, Italy is home to the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. Finally I made a decision. Here it is.

blog Holland Holiday Italy Venice

Crossing foreign canals in Venice

I have always been curious about the so-called City of Water. Could the canals of Venice really be more beautiful than the canal districts of Amsterdam or Utrecht? I needed proof and that’s why I made a short stop in Venice. While looking around from my seat in a small romantic gondola, I have to admit that Venice is quite charming. The view is stunning, especially in the evening when the beautiful buildings along the Grand canal shine their lights on the water. However, I prefer the rustic sphere of Dutch canals.

Blog Holland Italy Pisa

Philosophizing about the Leaning Tower of Pisa

Maybe it’s because of my nationality but I like crazy buildings. This made the Leaning Tower of Pisa a must-see attraction for me. I was lucky to have a very good guide who could tell some interesting stories about this tower. Apparently the tower was built as part of a church in the 12th century. Although intended to stand vertically, the tower began leaning to the southeast due to a poorly laid foundation. The architect was clever enough to vanish from the history books. Neither he nor his offspring would probably have gotten another job.

Dreaming in Rome

After I had so much fun at the amphitheater in France, I also wanted to see the big original in Rome. I must say that I was deeply impressed. The Colosseum was capable of holding 50,000 spectators, which is nearly as much as the capacity of football stadium Amsterdam ArenA. I spend some time lying in the sun and dreaming about gladiator and lion fights.

Blog Holland Holiday Italy Positano

Relaxing in Positano

Finally I received a great tip from one of my Twitter followers: the Amalfi Coast. Since I was in the mood for relaxing I decided to stay a while at the beautiful beaches of Positano Village for eating gelati and sunbathing. For one day I was lazy, ,simply enjoying the beautiful landscape at the coast and the crystal clear water of the sea. I also planned a visit to ancient Pompeii which is only two hours away from Positano. The ancient city, which was hit by Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD is really magnificient. What fascinated me most is that many of the buildings have been left in tact and most structures show a strong resemblance with modern architecture such as schools, bars and homes.

Plan my visit to your country

I had a nice time in Italy. Next station is Germany. Furthermore I will travel to Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and the UK. Can you recommend any great places in these countries I should definitely visit? Please share your secret tip with me!
